I met the Six over six years ago . . . huh, I just noticed that. They've lived with me for years; I getting to know them and getting to know myself through them. A counselor I was seeing at one point suggested they each represented a piece of me. I can see that, all the best parts and the worst parts. And trust me, there are plenty of best parts.
Do you write? Do you create? If you do, how often are you surprised by it? Not in the way of, "Hell yeah, that was good!" No, I'm talking about those moments you didn't see coming. I love those moments. While it happened with all of them, I remember Stephen's moment the clearest. I was sitting at a table at a sweet coffee shop in Watauga (wuh-tah-guh), TX. I'd known of Stephen, but we hadn't spent much time together. As I started writing his first chapter where he held the POV, everything started rapidly unfolding. His past, his pain, his broken heart, and simple kindness. I started crying right there over my Fireside Latte and had to take plenty of deep breaths to get myself under control. But that's the magic of it all. Yes, I know the direction things are headed . . . generally. No, I don't know it all, but they tell me everything I need to know when it's time. Stephen, Charlie, Maze, Hedy, Spencer, and even Veronica. They're all lovely people . . . most of the time.
I hope you take the time to read the Six, allow yourself to be surprised by them, and build a relationship with these Six wonderful humans(?) the way I have. Snag it at Amazon.
Later.
PS - If you're ever in Watauga, TX, you have to go to Kindred Coffee. Get a Fireside Latte. It's so damn good. You're welcome.
Is Kindred actually in Wuh-tah-guh or is it NRH? Guess I'll be looking it up on Google maps. ;) And I can't visit them anymore because they discontinued my favorite muffin on the planet: their cardamom spice muffin. Kidding. But almost not. All the love...
